Inverness is the capital of the Highlands of
Scotland. It lies at the head of the Great Glen, off the north east tip of
Loch Ness and is served by excellent rail and air links. Situated on the
Caledonian Canal Inverness has grown dramatically since the 1960's to reach
its present population of 50,000. Almost a quarter of the Highland population
resides in or around the city. Inverness Castle dominates the local
architecture and dates from the 1830's. To the east of the town, is Culloden
Battlefield. Inverness was given the
status of a City in 2000, as one of three Millennium Cities named across the
United Kingdom.
Inverness is most famous for Loch Ness and the
constant search for the Loch Ness Monster.
The Nessie story continues to draw a huge following with visitors to Loch
Ness. Whether you are a Nessie believer or a sceptic research is fascinating.
The Nessie fan might be a child or a scientist. |
